The "Hula Hoodoo" is an unnamed Woolly Blue Hoodoo that first appeared in Go Do The Hoodoo, as a dancer.

Everything surrounding her design points at her being based on (popular culture tourist-based) Hawaii. The Hibiscus flower is native to the Hawaiian islands and is associated with it. Her dancing of hip swaying and wave arms is supposed to depict hula dancing. Incidentally, she wears Coconut Shells, an ingredient for Hoodoo Stew, and were provided and deemed sacred Music Island Missions: Zoshling Encounters by the Woolly Green Hoodoos, who are loosely based on Hawaiian culture. Sprockett and Hubbs were also shown to wear Coconut Shells as bikinis in Bungle in the Jungle.

She would have made her second appearance in Moshling Rescue! as part of the promotional artwork (and pause screen), but was later replaced for another Hoodoo who strikes the same pose, and was thus erased from the game altogether. The reason for this change is not made clear but it most likely has to do with her design. Unlike her performance of dancing in "Go Do The Hoodoo" where she dances solo and does not pay attention to her surroundings, she is shown to have joined the circle during Big Bad Bill's spellcasting in "Moshling Rescue!".

Design[]

"Hula Hoodoo" is designed to look more feminine by various feminine design standards.

  • Hair and shape - She has a large tuft on top of her head while the hair around her face is pulled straight down to give a suggestion of a haircut. Her fur puffs out near her hips again to put emphasis on them or to make a visual suggestion of a skirt. To make her wave body work, she is longer than most fellow Hoodoos.
  • Eyelashes - Even though it being neutral and common for Moshi Monsters characters to have an outspoken eyelash, due to the absence of such in general Hoodoo design, this eyelash is supposed to commune gendered othering. Her yellow marking on her cheeks both point to her eyes, also to resemble eyelashes.
  • Decorations - She wears two orange Hibiscus (Hibiscus kokio) flowers on top of her head. More explicit and odd is her coconut bra. The design of Woolly Hoodoos does not feature breasts and it is a rare feature among mainstream character design of Moshi Monsters. Such a design choice is to make a character look more 'human-isque', which is the aim of feminine design, as it is deemed more attractive. On top of that, it serves as a "child-friendly" adult gag.
