The objective of Downhill Dash is to gain the highest score possible by collecting several stars, each acquired to boost your score.

Controls[]

Using the arrow keys, you control the protagonist, Weevil Kneevil, as they ride down a narrow hill. The aim is to move to collect stars. However, there are puddles and logs that act as obstacles, when contact is made a life is lost. There are also ramps that allows Weevil to jump through the air.

(↑) Up arrow key Moves Weevil Kneevil up a lane, providing they are not in the top lane.
(↓) Down arrow key Moves Weevil Kneevil down a lane, providing they are not in the bottom lane.
(←) Left arrow key Moves Weevil Kneevil backwards, initially slowing them down.
(→) Right arrow key Speeds Weevil Kneevil up, allowing them to go faster down the lane.

Obstacles[]

The player starts off with two lives, and the game ends when the player has no lives left. Lives are lost when players interact with obstacles.

Downhill Dash obstacle puddle
The Puddle is a standard obstacle that will steal a life from the player upon interaction. The puddle has a gloomy and murky look, warding off the player. As well as stealing a life, the interaction with the puddle also changes Weevil Kneevil's facial expression.
Downhill Dash obstacle log
The Log performs similarly to the puddle, stealing a life from the player upon interaction. Like the puddle, as well as stealing a life, the interaction with the puddle also changes Weevil Kneevil's facial expression.
Downhill Dash obstacle ramp
Upon interaction, ramps throttle Weevil into the air, boosting the speed of the bike. After the speed is boosted, higher-tiered stars will appear.

Stars[]

Stars appear upon a streak basis. Stars will continue to change to a higher tier (a majority of red stars appearing turns to a majority of bronze stars appearing) until the player interacts/hits an obstacle. When a player hits an obstacle, the stars that appear will again go to be being red and the tier system starts over again.

As players see a higher tier star, the speed of the game gets notably faster, increasing the likeliness of Weevil interacting with an obstacle, restarting the star tier and the speed.

Downhill Dash star red
Red stars are the first type of star that the player will encounter upon starting the game, boosting the player's score by 10 points.
Downhill Dash star bronze

Bronze stars are the second type of star that the player will encounter. Upon starting the game, the bronze stars are only obtainable upon the acceleration on ramps in mid-air. Bronze stars boost the player's score by 50 points.

Downhill Dash star silver

Silver stars are the third type of star that the player will encounter. Originally, when bronze stars are common, the silver stars are only obtainable by going on a ramp. After sliding up two ramps, the silver stars take over the place of the bronze stars. Silver stars boost the player's score by 100 points.

Downhill Dash star gold

Gold stars are the fourth and final type of stars that the player will encounter. The gold stars are only obtainable via sliding on ramps when silver stars are common. Unlike the other stars who appear common at one point of the game, gold stars do not. Gold stars boost the player's score by 500 points.
